Private Software and Services Company – Litigation Paralegal

Our client is a private software and services company, specializing in big data analysis.

The legal team strives to support and safeguard the company as it grows and scales. In carrying out your role, you will be first in line to defend and advocate for the company across all of its litigation matters, including in intellectual property, regulatory, corporate, and employment cases. You will help manage and drive a litigation docket and provide advice on developing new processes to better scale future litigation matters and helping to manage outside counsel on existing matters. And though litigation is your forum of choice, you also will provide sage advice on a range of general legal issues, from intellectual property topics to helping negotiate contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with lawyers, developers, business development, people operations, and outside counsel to manage the client’s litigation docket
  • Legal research and writing
  • Step in where needed to streamline processes and find alternative, creative solutions
  • Establish processes, internal tools, and resources to better scale litigation matters
  • Communicate and coordinate with colleagues at all levels within the company
  • Support lawyers with contracts, intellectual property issues, and a wide range of everyday tasks
  • Manage scheduling and calendars

Requirements

  • BA/BS with a strong academic record from a top university
  • 2-6+ years of paralegal experience with a leading law firm providing litigation support
  • Extremely well organized with a proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Availability during nights and weekends as needed
  • Great sense of humor would be cool

Our client is a private software and services company specializing in big data analysis.

In this role, you will address a diverse set of legal issues so that our client can continue to drive positive impact in the world.

As an employment lawyer, you will handle matters from working on regulatory, intellectual property, and international issues. As a specialist you will spend a considerable amount of time working on employment issues and interacting frequently with company leadership and counseling the People Team and managers throughout the company. Expect to draft and negotiate employment and non-employment related policies and contracts.

You have the instincts of a litigator and the heart of a mediator. You’re a strong advocate for fairness, diversity, and our client’s core mission. You will design personnel policies and procedures, direct workplace investigations, and manage compliance with state, federal, and international employment laws. This position may involve travel, including internationally.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Draft and implement policies and procedures, with a focus on employment issues
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and international employment laws and regulations
  • Serve as the bridge linking the People and Legal teams
  • Work closely with outside counsel as needed

Requirements:

  • Law degree with strong academic record
  • 4-7 years of experience with employment litigation and counseling
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • A flexible style so that you can move through shifting priorities
  • A creative legal mind that can apply legal training to impact the success of the business enterprise
  • Ability to stay highly organized and efficient in a highly productive environment

Preferences:

In this role, you will be first in line to cultivate and defend the crux of our client’s core business – intellectual property. You will help manage their intellectual property portfolio and offer legal advice on a range of intellectual property issues, from patent portfolio management to open source usage. You will also provide sage advice on a range of general legal issues, from negotiating commercial agreements with Fortune Global 50 companies to working on regulatory, data privacy, and employment issues.

You will help guide company engineers through cutting edge legal issues related to innovative product development and licensing, and offer a wide range of legal advice touching upon intellectual property and general legal areas. You are a master of legal needs related to patenting, development, and licensing of groundbreaking technology, and you seek a position where you can apply this mastery in support of our mission.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Become an expert and stay up-to-date on client’s cutting edge technology
  • Advise on IP strategy and processes
  • Draft and negotiate contracts of all types, including large scale enterprise software license agreements
  • Navigate deals through any corporate bureaucracy
  • Coordinate outside counsel throughout the patent application and administration process
  • Provide key resources for product development needs, such as third party licensing, distribution agreements, terms of use, disclosure requirements, and IP guidance
  • Answer questions and offer legal advice on wide range of IP and other legal issues across the company
  • Exercise initiative and creativity in solving challenges and accomplishing business goals

Requirements:

  • Passion for technology
  • JD from a top-tier institution
  • Extremely well organized with a proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Available during nights and weekends as needed
  • Outstanding analytical and technical skills
  • 3-7 years of intellectual property-related legal practice experience, including technology transactions work
  • Member of CA Bar or willingness to take and pass CA bar exam

Preferences:

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Sciences or Mathematics, or equivalent technical expertise
  • Familiarity with software licensing, privacy, and data protection

Position is available in Silicon Valley or New York.
